Simplicity
and
Imperfection

Hi, I’m Lourens, an expressionist photographer who believes in finding the emotional impact of everything I capture. My journey behind the lens has always been about more than just taking pictures—it’s about seeing the beauty in what most people might overlook, especially the imperfections.

“I’ve always been inclined to see the world through the lens of imperfection, transience, and the natural beauty of life, long before I even knew about Wabi-Sabi. When I finally encountered the philosophy, it felt like a reflection of how I’d already been viewing the world—both in my photography and my everyday experiences.”

Over time, I started translating my photographs into home décor and textiles—things like table runners, tablecloths, duvets and pillows. Each piece tells a story, reminding us that life isn’t about striving for perfection. It’s about embracing the quirks and flaws that make things unique. In a world where we’re often told to hide imperfections, I find them beautiful. They bring warmth, character, and authenticity—things we all need more of in our homes.

Thank you for being here and for welcoming these small pieces of my vision into your space. I hope they bring a sense of calm, comfort, and a reminder that everything—even the imperfect—has a place and a purpose.

Simplicity
in
Every
Moment

This approach is all about finding beauty in simplicity and nature. It values modesty and calm over flashy or extravagant things. There’s a quiet appreciation for things that are incomplete or imperfect, seeing worth in what others might overlook.

It encourages humility, showing us how to find beauty in the ordinary and unpolished. By focusing on what’s essential and removing what’s unnecessary, this mindset brings a sense of peace and satisfaction, helping us stay present and appreciate the small, subtle beauty that surrounds us every day.

Graceful
Scars
of
Time

This approach values the passage of time, finding beauty in aging and the natural wear of things. It sees cracks, rust, and other signs of aging as proof of an object’s story and character. Instead of viewing imperfection as a flaw, it shows us that these changes are part of what makes life beautiful.

It celebrates the grace of things that are old and worn, reminding us to reflect on how temporary life is. By embracing the signs of aging and decay, this outlook teaches us that life’s fragility is what makes it so valuable and beautiful.
